Zelda (Sally) O’Connor – Lead Vocals & Percussion
Hi, my name is “Zelda” (better known as “Sally”) O’Connor and to put it simply, I love to sing! I have been honoured with the opportunity to sing at some of the most intimate, personal and meaningful times in another’s life…at Weddings, Funerals of loved ones, Christenings, Dedications, Baptisms, Birthdays, Wedding/Baby Showers, Corporate Awards and Banquet Events, Annivesaries, Christian Church Services, Birthday parties at Seniors Residences, and other assorted events that celebrate life!I grew up deeply involved in dance and drama which evolved into singing in my early teens. Since then I have been singing … in churches, weddings, clubs, pubs, bars, lounges and other assorted venues… as a soloist, as part of duet and trio acts, and in rock bands. In 1996, I was blessed to have had the opportunity to record some of my original music with a wonderful Producer and personal Mentor, Mr. Brian Gagnon (Sony BMG); with a couple of my songs even landing on Christian Radio stations internationally! Since then, I have continued doing what I love – singing! I have also been a karaoke host for many special events and fund raisers. What I like best about karaoke is that I can sing a whole variety of music, all in one night, and don’t have to worry about whether or not the band knows the song!! I have an excellent karaoke system and while I do not have any full time karaoke bar gigs, being so actively involved in my community I make myself available and open to participating in special events and fundraisers.
Although I have been singing now for over 20 years (my how time flies!) I fell in love with singing the old jazz classics only about five years ago after hearing Etta James’ “I just want to make love to you’. I hooked up with Vasco Alfonso, a wonderful keyboard accompaniest almost 2 years ago when his wife Valerie was looking for jazz singers for her husband’s musical jazz act. Since then, Vasco and I have gone to sing at many weddings, senior’s residences, hotel lounges and clubs as a jazz duet. We have been a regular feature at Premiere Banquet Hall in Vaughn, performing at wedding pre-receptions nearly every Saturday afternoon. Vasco and I have also performed as a 4 piece jazz band, playing with phenom session drummer Mike McCullen and “MR BASSMAN” himself, the extraordinary Mr. Glenn Ellis. While the majority of my booking are as a jazz duet (myself and Vasco), I am still available to sing as a soloist (with music backing tracks) or as a full piece band.
